Position Overview
The role of the Senior Buyer is to provide efficient purchasing and procurement management of material and services, within the company’s Supply Chain Management systems, in conjunction with all related departments.
The Senior Buyer is responsible for ensuring that the organisation selects the most appropriate goods and services on the basis of price, quality, delivery times and services support.
The Senior Buyer shall liaise with all relevant departments for all purchasing and procurement activities related to vendors and sub-contractor suppliers.
Academic Qualification
- Business Administration or Engineering qualification in Supply Chain Management/Purchasing & Supply
Professional Experience
- Relevant experience in buying equipment and supplies, gained within the industry.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Leadership, Supervision and training of the Buying Function.
- Actively promote and champion the use of best practise to ensure compliance with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
- Liaising between suppliers, manufacturers, necessary internal departments and clients.
- Liaise closely with Logistics and Operations regarding the best method of shipment and most effective option for deliveries of goods financially.
- Developing purchasing strategy in conjunction with Supply Chain Management
- Producing reports and statistics using computer software.
- Participation in audits as required.
- Maintaining exact records of all procurement files and using them as base point reference for the future
- Ensuring suppliers are aware of business objectives
- Checking costs, quality and levels of service
- Attending meetings and trade conferences
- Visiting manufacturers, distribution centres and service suppliers
- They will be expected to travel as required both locally and internationally.
- Helps in the development of a challenging, productive and effective departmental staff by participating in the interview process for applicants and making recommendations regarding hiring decisions, training staff members involved in procurement operations, providing the feedback and inputs regarding performance, and supervising staff engaged in procurement functions in the absence of or direction of the Director.

The Senior Buyer is reported to the Director of Procurement Services and supervises clerical staff, student and part-time workers, and graduate assistants.
Senior buyer positions generally have higher salaries, though this figure can vary depends on experience, industry and employer. However, typically the average salary of a Senior Buyer is around Rs.7 lacs to Rs.9 lacs annually.
