The term Conceptual model is a representation of a system, made of composition of concepts which are used to help the people know, understand, and simulate a subject the model represents. The conceptual models are formed after the conceptualization and generalization of the problem. They are often the abstractions of the things in the real world, whether it is physical or social. Semantic Studies are relevant to various stages of concept modelling. Semantics is basically about the concepts, where the thinking beings that is humans give the various elements of their experience. A distinction can be made between what the models are and what the model are made up of. The value of the conceptual model is directly proportional to how well it corresponds to past, present, future, actual and potential state of the affairs.
The concept model identifies the correct choice of terms to use in communications, including all the business analysis information. This technique is important where high precision and subtle distinctions are need to be made. The concept modelling starts with the glossary which typically focus on the core concepts of the domain. The concept models are high on quality, design independent definitions that are free of data and implementation biases. It also emphasize rich vocabulary. The concept models can be more effective where the enterprise seeks to organize, retain, build on, manage, and communicate core knowledge. The goal of the concept model is to support the expression of natural language and supply their semantics.

The main elements in concept modelling are noun concepts, verb concepts, and other connections. The most basic concept in concept modelling are noun concept of the domain which are simply the givens of the problem statement. The verb concepts provide the basic structural connections between the noun concepts. The verb concepts are derived, inferred, and computed by definition rules. The concept modelling will support the rich meaning and standard connections that are derived from the solution such as categorizations, classifications, partitive connections, and roles of the particular domain.
