Category A items are typically high-value, high-importance, or high-usage items that require close monitoring and tight control. Category B items are moderate-value, moderate-importance, or moderate-usage items that require moderate control. Category C items are low-value, low-importance, or low-usage items that require minimal control.  

Pareto Principle: ABC analysis is based on the Pareto Principle, which states that a small percentage of items (typically 20%) account for a large percentage (typically 80%) of the total value or impact.
