Forces Acting on the Organization: Internal and External

In the introduction section, we briefly touched upon the internal and external forces acting on the organization. The nature of these forces may be different across industries and may change time-to-time even for the same organization.

Let us list out the typical internal and external forces that are acting on a 100 bed hospital. The internal forces that are acting on an organization refers to the forces that emanate from people, process and systems inside the organization such as

  • The quality policy of the hospital set by the top management
  • The working conditions expected by the employees of the hospital
  • The revenue expectations from the investors etc.

On the other hand, the external forces are,

  • The directions issued by the regulatory bodies at the union, state and local governments
  • The diagnosis, treatment and customer service expectations of the customers
  • The issues raised by social activists
  • The bio-medical waste related directions from government and protest by the locality
  • The advancement in treatment and technology trends in the healthcare industry
  • The marketing and promotions by competitor etc.
