Position Overview
The Head of Procurement needs to choose sources suppliers and develop relationships to negotiate and buy goods, materials and services to meet the Company’s operational requirements. This includes selection of suppliers, tendering and estimating costs. Sourcing, negotiating and buying of goods, materials and services to meet the Company’s operational requirements are the functions of the Head of Procurement. The overall responsibility and accountability for the Purchasing department which includes people and budgetary management. 

Academic Qualification

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant commercial or engineering discipline

Professional Experience

  • Experience of leading a purchasing department with a proven track record in strategic purchasing leadership delivering effective purchasing strategies, policies, processes and systems  
  • Capacity to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements  
  • Proven experience in contract and supplier management 
  • Experience of operating at a strategic level

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Total responsibility for Purchasing and Cost Estimating activities across the business
  • Creating and implementing the best practice purchasing vision, policies, strategy, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance
  • Assess the challenges faced by the business and take appropriate action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities  
  • Contribute to overall business strategy and budget process annually
  • Overall responsibility in managing relationships and negotiating with key suppliers at a senior and strategic level  
  • Negotiate contract terms with important suppliers to ensure value for money, quality standards and delivery terms with both technical and operational input from stakeholders if appropriate  
  • Plan negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms  
  • Speculate the price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer supplier power
  • Develop and keep up the strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance  
  • Work with other teams, negotiate and engage with important stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the purchasing strategy  
  • Periodic communication with stakeholders and impact of market change and potential effects on supply 
  • Decide solutions without compromising quality or service while optimising cost 
  • Give leadership, coordination and training to the team, ensuring they are trained enabling them to achieve the operational and financial metrics within their areas of responsibility and succeed in their roles

  • Results orientated with ability to devise a plan and deliver against project deadlines 

The Salary depends on the experience. However, typically the average salary of a Head of Procurement is around Rs.8 lacs to Rs.10 lacs.
