This article discusses “Calibration Department and its SOP Manual”. Measurement consists of comparison of samples of unknown composition with standards of known composition or with scales calibrated with respect to such standards. The standards used must simulate the unknowns with respect to matrix and level of analyze if the comparisons are to be valid. The goal of calibration is to minimize any measurement uncertainty by ensuring the accuracy of test equipment. Calibration quantifies and controls errors or uncertainties within measurement processes to an acceptable level.
Role and Responsibility of calibration department:
- Designated person in QC shall be responsible for calibration of QC instrument.
- Production department shall be responsible for calibration of IPQC instrument.
- Engineering department shall be responsible for calibration of production equipment, sensors, measuring devices and utilities.
- Primary user department shall be responsible for calibration of balances installed in different department like warehouse, production, QC etc.
- Stamping of floor balances shall be responsibility of engineering department.
- In-house calibration shall be performed as per internal SOP and external calibration can be accepted as per external agency’s SOP approved be QA, QC and engineering department.
