Safety measures, drills and operations today incorporate a lot of technology. Responders and officers should not be hampered by poor signal coverage. Voice communication, location information and video streaming are vital tools in an emergency. But these features are practically difficult to execute because buildings have coverage holes like elevators, tunnels, garages, escalators, where wireless communication maybe impeded. To ensure safety, despite these practical difficulties, Public Safety Distributed Antenna System must be set up. This system’s connection is on a different spectrum than commercial wireless.

It is designed to cover the entire building(at least 99 percent of the total area). it comes with a backup power source and continuous system monitoring. A base station or a repeater is required inside the building. It assists the signals coming in. Head in equipment is located with the base station equipment. This is like a master unit. It controls all the remote units. The remote units are placed at various levels and locations of the place or building. RF signals are the medium of communication and optical cables are used for connection. At the master unit, the signals are converted and sent to the remote units.

At the remote units, the reverse process takes place. Splitters are used and extension cables are taken from the remote units and connected to a network of Antennas. Instead of having a lot of signal loss from a single location, low power distribution with much lesser signal loss is equipped. Depending on the DAS (Distributed  Antenna System) requirement, different cable variants may be used.
