The General Services Department is responsible for construction, operation, maintenance and appearance of all government owned buildings, estates and grounds. The six different sections that make up general services are Capital Projects, Solid Waste and Recycling, Fleet and Equipment, Grounds Maintenance, Storm Water, and Facilities Maintenance. A proper collaboration between each division is necessary for successful operations of projects that serve the public. While renovations are made, improvement to the current facilities is a must. Improvements in concessions and facilities would sometimes require fresh buildings. By adhering to sustainable  building policy, we can make sure the projects are energy efficient. It should be completed on time in the smallest budget possible. Sometimes outside agents may be required for better efficiency and understanding of the situation to be dealt with. Local communities are made to be involved in projects as much as possible. Consultants are used for site plans and paving designs.

A division also coordinates programs for bulk trash pickup, household chemical collection, curbside recycling and leaf collection. Recycling, litter prevention and beautification are promoted. Parks and recreation departments often combine with the recycling departments for a more comprehensive approach.


The Feet and equipments department maintains over a thousand varieties of  equipment and vehicles. They vary from push mowers to sewer equipment, motorcycles, cars, and even fire trucks. Apart from routine maintenance fleet maintenance is also regularly involved in performing major repairs on mechanical systems. Grounds maintenance is almost responsible for maintaining every facility. They are responsible for landscape beautification and strategic initiatives as well. They provide the setup and breakdown of all official events. They take all debris to convenience centers for proper treatment. They are taken to centers for composting and use recycling mulch.

Storm water manages drainage and runoff. Educational assistance to citizens and workers is also provided. Storm water drafts spill prevention, control and counter measure planning to keep storm water from carrying contaminated materials into water ways. They work to improve storm water quality and minimize contamination. Lighting systems, advanced HVAC alarming systems and automate building controls are some of the features provided by the Facilities Maintenance Department.
