Growing food crops under glass or protection is suitable more for growing tender plants and exotic heat plants. It is useful to make use of the autumn sun to raise certain food crops using such an environment. This method is more suitable to get earlier harvests of tender crops. Biological growth enhancers, manures, composts, fertilizers, pesticides, etc are used as per the type of crop. Proper insulation and basic temperature monitoring is required as well. Grey Mould, damping off and powdery mildew are some common diseases that may occur to food crops being grown under protective environment. Glasshouse leaf hoppers, glasshouse white fly, glass house red spider mite are some common pests that may be present.
